After watching the film discuss the following quote from a film reviewer:
"The film deserves to join the other fine disability dramas like My Left Foot and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, films that show how powerful and noble the human spirit can be when faced with seemingly impossible circumstances. The film does not go into the obscure details of Hawking’s theories that would reconcile quantum mechanics and Einstein’s theory of general relativity, except for three brief scenes, at a meal with a fork and a potato, one set in a pub, and another showing a swirl of cream in a cup of coffee. It is not the science but the human drama of Stephen and Jane that are the center of the film, making for a memorable viewing experience."
What is your view?
How much is the film about Stephen Hawking the scientist and how much about the people around him- especially his wife Jane- without whose support you can wonder what would have happened..
Discuss any scene from the film you especially remember.
After the mid-term break we start on the writing course.
I can recommend the "Writing Skills" chapter
in "English C"-page 88 and onwards..
Have a good holiday. Hope to see you in

Hot topics and film
We are going to start today by discussing two hot topics and then we will start to look at our film:
"The theory of everything"
Get into groups of 4 students and discuss the following two topics:
1. The refugee situation
How many refugees can Sweden receive? Is there a limit? What problems does this create? What would you do if you were the prime minister? What can be done to stop the flow of refugees to Europe?
2. Sweden and NATO
In a time of global warming it looks a s though we are heading for a new cold war..
How should Sweden react to the threat from the East? Is it time to join NATO or will that provoke Russia even more?
Sweden has disarmed a lot and disbanded much of its military power. What can be done now to redress the balance of power?
Film
We will watch one hour today and one hour on Friday..
After the film on Friday there will be an opportunity to discuss and rate the film

Back from the bush!
Well, we all got back safely from the bush and we actually met George of the jungle!
Today we are going to start our presentations.
At the same time we will do a peer assessment of one presentation just to get you used to the idea.
We will start off with the non-Ugandan groups and then on Friday we will continue with the remaining groups. We will finish off with the "Births, marriages and deaths in Uganda" group.
The sessions will be recorded for the purposes of making YouTube an even more exciting place to visit! (Just kidding!!)
