Welcome back after the autumn break.
Greet the person behind/in front of you and ask them to say a couple of things about their mid-term break.
Today we start our writing course,Writing is an acquired skill and there is no "perfect level"- not even for a native speaker (That's why you don't get the highest grades even when you write in Swedish!!!)
One of the positive things about the textbook is the section on writing. We will spend the first five minutes of the lesson looking at these points VERY BRIEFLY.
Here you will find a lot of the material we will discuss during our four lessons over the next two weeks.
We are now moving into an intensive period of writing where all of the assignments will be graded.
Now we will start off by discussing writing in groups of three to four students. Here is the handout. Today it will also be available on paper. I want you to take about 10-15 minutes to do the handout and give some feedback.
So as you know what's going on, here is the planner for the mini-course in writing
Now we move on to a basic building-block of writing-
namely the 5 paragraph essay.
Here is the first one and here is the other hand-out.
Your task BY Friday is CHOOSE ONE TOPIC and write a five-paragraph essay based on the following titles:
Descriptive
My grandmother (or another relative); my most important possession; a good friend; the history of my town (village).
Narrative
A day everything went wrong; my first day at school; a day I will never forget.
Comparative
To blog or not to blog; Mobile phones and young children.
Argumentative
Sweden and the present refugee situation; the advantages of education.
Send it to Mike's Vklass- under the task "Five paragraph essay".
Make sure you have covered all the points on the writing checklist on page 102 in "English C" before you send it in.
If you miss today's lesson it is your responsibility to find out your subject and have it done by Friday. Failure to do the tasks on the writing course without an adequate excuse will result in an "F"- warning!!!!
(You have been warned!)
